New!Holiday Activities for Kids - This Holiday season, the Craft Shop will be offering many opportunites for children to be crafty - but in a good way - including working on the pottery wheel, making cards, candle and picture holders, candy cane ornaments, plaster hands, origami and more. Glass Bead Making at the Student Center Craft Shop
Saturday  November 15th 10:30 am – 4:30 pm
All day Saturday workshop before the Holidays
Participants will make beautiful one-of-a-kind beads. Torches, colorful glass rods, and a little skill make this a fun and exciting craft. Beads can then be used to make wonderful gifts like necklaces, bracelets, and other jewelry. Must be 14 years or older to participate. Materials are extra. Participation: Minimum 6, Maximum 12. Cost:$25.00 SIUC Students, $35.00 Others.

Holiday Craft Fair

2008 Holiday Craft SalePlease come to our 30th Annual Holiday Craft Sale featuring 75 Regional Craft Vendors. It will be held Thursday, December 4 - Saturday, December 6 in the Student Center Hall of Fame and International Lounge. Hours are Thursday and Friday: 10:00am - 5:00pm and Saturday, 9:00am to 4:00 pm.

Join the Happy Factory!

The Daily Egyptian recently featured our Community Service Project in their pages. If you would like to join the Happy Factory and help make toys for children out of scrap wood, call Ron Dunkel at 618.453.3636. Last year, Tau Kappa Epsilon helped make Happy Factory cars that were taken to New Orleans by Educ8kdz, a College of Education-based Registered Student Organization.

Craft Shop MapLocated next to the Big Muddy Room on the lower level, the Craft Shop and the Wood Shop have everything you need to design and create fine pieces of art. The facilities and workshops are open to SIUC students, faculty, staff and members of the community.

A complete Wood Shop is open for your use offering workshops and wood working services. A semester long pass may be obtained by completing a basic proficiency test. Fees of $15.00 for one semester or $25.00 for two semesters are required. A two-week pass is also available for $5.00.

Tie Dye ShirtGroup Activities

Groups may plan their own workshops, activities and birthday parties. Try your hand at candle making, tie-dye, glass bead making, macramé, wax hands, silk-screening and ceramics. Call 618.453.3636 or 618.453.5209 for more information or to schedule dates.


Be a Volunteer!

The Craft Shop is looking for teens who are interested in apprenticeship work in the arts. Teens must be age 14 or older and have permission from their parent or guardian. Work apprenticeships include ceramics, jewelry, candle making and light woodwork ing.

Refund Policy

Due to the expenses involved in course planning, no refunds will be granted within one week of the workshop start date.
