You and your family are invited to Saluki Family Weekend at Southern Illinois University Carbondale, October 15, 16, & 17, 2010. The weekend features many traditional events as well as new ones designed to provide you with a fun-filled weekend. The students, faculty and staff at SIUC have spent many hours planning events to ensure you have a wonderful time in Carbondale and develop memories that will last a lifetime.

Family of the Year Contest

Be sure to enter to win! Families that answer fifteen or more questions correctly will be entered into a drawing for the Family of the Year contest. The winning family will be notified prior to their arrival on campus for Saluki Family Weekend. The deadline for submitting this entry form is Monday, October 4th at 4:30pm . Make sure you clearly enter your contact information at the bottom of the survey.

Event Schedule

Friday Oct. 15

  • Student Recreation Center | 5:30 am - 10:00 pm - Family members of students are invited to tour and use the Student Recreation Center facilities for FREE. Please visit the Welcome Desk located on the lower level for details. Please be sure to bring a photo ID to the Student Recreation Center.
  • University Bookstore | 8:00 am - 6:00 pm (First Floor, Student Center) - Look for great deals and a large selection of SIUC merchandise and apparel at the University's convenient bookstore.
  • Student Center Bowling & Billiards | 9:00 am – 11:00 pm (First Floor, Student Center) - SIUC students and your family can enjoy student rate price bowling and billiards all day, all weekend. A current SIUC student with ID must accompany family members.
  • Family Weekend Craft Sale | 10:00 am - 5:00 pm (First Floor, Student Center) - Regional vendors will be available for you to enjoy early holiday shopping or look for that unique souvenir. Choose from handmade candles, ceramics, photographs and other crafts. Sponsored by the Student Center Craft Shop.
  • Boat Dock on Campus Lake | 12:00 noon - 6:00 pm - Visit Campus Lake and take advantage of FREE boat rentals including: paddle boats, canoes and rowboats (weather permitting). Please be sure to bring a photo ID to the Campus Lake Boat Docks.
  • SPC Film: "Despicable Me” | 7:00 pm & 9:30 pm (Student Center Auditorium) - This computer-animated comedy film stars Steve Carell, Jason Segel, Russell Brand, Julie Andrews, Will Arnett, Kristen Wiig, and Miranda Cosgrove in a story of a supervillain named Gru who plans to use three orphan girls as pawns for a grand scheme, only to find that their innocent love is profoundly changing him. Tickets are $2.00 for SIUC students/children10 and under, $3.00 for the general public at the door. Sponsored by the Student Programming Council Films Committee.
  • Broadway Musical: "Crazy for You"| 7:30 pm (McLeod Theater) - In this Broadway Musical, a rich playboy heads west to foreclose on a small town’s music hall, falls in love with the local post mistress, and produces a Broadway extravaganza to save the town. The play is based on the 1930 Broadway hit “Girl Crazy,” The score features such hits as “Embraceable You,” “I’m Bidin’ My Time,” and “I’ve Got Rhythm.” For all the details visit: http://www.theater.siuc.edu/. Ticket Prices: Adults $16, Seniors $14, Students and Children $6, some additional fees may apply. Saturday Oct. 16

  • Student Recreation Center | 8:00 am - 6:00 pm - Family members of students are invited to tour and use the Student Recreation Center facilities for FREE. Please visit the information desk located on the upper level for details. A current SIUC student with ID must accompany family members.
  • Family Weekend Registration | 9:00 am -1:00 pm (East Entrance Student Center) - Stop by the Saluki Family Weekend Registration Area to sign in and get the latest update of weekend events. Free refreshments will be available. Sponsored by the Student Programming Council Special Events Committee.
  • Campus Tours | 9:00, 10:00, 11:00 am, and 12:00 noon (East Entrance of Student Center) -Ride the tour train around the beautiful SIUC campus and listen to a 40 minute guided tour narrated by our very own student tour guides. Seats are limited so first come, first served. Sponsored by the SPC Special Events Committee.
  • Family Weekend Craft Sale | 10:00 am - 5:00 pm (First Floor, Student Center) - Regional vendors will be available for you to enjoy early holiday shopping or look for that unique souvenir. Choose from handmade candles, ceramics, photographs and other crafts. Sponsored by the Student Center Craft Shop.
  • Raku Pottery Firing | 10:00 am - 3:00 pm (South Patio, Student Center) - While touring the Family Weekend Craft Sale stop and glaze a ceramic vessel. Then watch it get fired Raku Style. Cost is $3.00 and up each. Sponsored by the Student Center Craft Shop.
  • Student Center Craft Shop | 10:00 am - 5:00 pm (Lower Level, Student Center) - Stop in the Student Center Craft Shop and spend some creative time with the pottery wheels, wood working tools, wax hand sculptures, and other "Walk-in" activities.
  • 74th Annnual IGC Creek Sing | 11:00 am – 12:30 pm (Steps of Shryock Auditorium) - Members of SIUC Greek fraternities and sororities perform some of their favorite tunes in this fun and spirited competition. Rain Location is in the Student Center. Sponsored by the Inter-Greek Council.
  • Pre-Game Tailgate | 11:00 am to 2:00 pm (outside the new “Saluki Stadium”) - Bring your grill and all your family and friends to one of the open parking areas near the new Saluki Stadium for fun tailgate activities. Many spaces are reserved in advance so be sure to view the tailgate policy for all the information you need to enjoy a great college game day at SIUC, sponsored by Saluki Athletics.
  • Saluki Family Tailgate | 11:00 am – 2:00 pm (Saluki Row, West of Saluki Stadium) - Please join the Saluki Family Association and University Housing as we welcome all Saluki families to Carbondale on Saluki Family Weekend 2010! We have a fun-filled tailgate planned, so bring your friends and family for FREE food, games and prizes. SIUC student tickets within the designated student section are FREE for SIUC students with student I.D. Sunday Oct. 17

  • 2010 Autumn Harvest Brunch | 10:30 am to 1:00 pm (Student Center Ballrooms) - Come enjoy one of our best traditions featuring a bountiful fall feast at a great price.

    The menu consists of Walnut and Rice Salad, Sweet Onion with a Sherry Rosemary Broth, Maple and Brown Sugar Glazed Carrots, Green Beans with Caramelized Onions, Pork Sausage Links, Cheesy Scramble with Potatoes, Cider Glazed Chicken Breast, Fresh Fruit Display, Pound Cake with Fruits Compote, Pumpkin Pie, Assorted Pastries, Coffee, Tea and Juice.

    Tickets purchased in advance are $13.00 for adults, $12.00 SIUC students and seniors (age 60 and older) and $7.00 for children (age 5 to 10). Ages 4 and under are free. Tickets purchased the day of the event are $14.00 for adults, $13.00 SIUC students and seniors (age 60 and older) and $8.00 for children (age 5 to 10).Ages 4 and under are free, sponsored by Student Center SPACE & Student Center Dining Services.
